The new projections will force changes to the 2021 budget, either in the form of spending cuts or revenue increases. Although the surplus for 2020 is roughly equivalent to the newly identified revenue shortfall in 2021, the CFO expects for DC to see revenue impacts throughout the five-year financial plan. That means DC needs to identify “a recurring $200M” to balance the budget in the out years, tweeted the DC Policy Center’s Yesim Sayin Taylor in a thread offering her initial reactions to the CFO’s report.
