On October 7, 2021, the D.C. Policy Center’s article, Observed disparities between 911 calls and crash reports, was cited by The DC Line:
A new analysis out today from the D.C. Policy Center finds that Metropolitan Police Department’s crash data is incomplete but nonetheless provides the basis for safety decisions by the District Department of Transportation. “While 90 percent of the car-only crashes had a corresponding police report, one third of the crashes in which a car hit a pedestrian or bicyclist went unreported in the public crash data,” write authors Emilia Calma and Charlotte Jackson. “While there might be legitimate reasons why these crashes go unreported, the missing information on how many crashes happen and where they happen makes MPD reports an incomplete source for DDOT’s planning purposes.”
