What the Trump win might mean for federal workers in D.C. | WAMU

On November 6, 2024, Executive Director Yesim Sayin was quoted by WAMU:

Though Yesim Sayin, executive director of nonprofit D.C. Policy Center, says the federal workforces’ economic importance has “greatly diminished” – in part because of remote work (In D.C., federal buildings use only about 12% of their office space on average).

“It’s not zero,” Sayin says. “But it’s much less than it was back in 2019.” 

She says the city can’t rely on the federal workforce or jobs to secure its economic future and should look to other strategies, like investing in housing.
